Recently, I attended a weaving class at Stackwood in Fremantle. I can’t believe how much craft we fit into one weekend morning! We learnt the basics: how to set up, materials and techniques. The group was small and everyone was keen to learn, share stories and support each other.
Phoebe, from Sunday Weaves was first introduced to weaving through her mother, who lead a women’s craft group. She loves Sundays because they’re all about gathering with friends to enjoy craft and conversation. Phoebe’s aim is to create a community around these activities.
She started Sunday Weaves as a place to slow down, drink good coffee, have great conversation and immerse herself in a creative project.
What I loved about this class was the variety of yarns, fabric and other materials we were encouraged to use in our work. I was shocked to realise I had created a finished piece in the allotted time! We also took home one of Phoebe’s handmade looms, with a lot of support and encouragement to continue our craft beyond the class.
There’s another one of these classes at Stackwood planned for Saturday 15th October, I strongly recommend it!
